2011 5.0 Ford Mustang

2011 5.0 Ford Mustang

That’s right – the legendary Mustang 5.0 is back! But this engine isn’t a throwback. This is a new version of the venerable V8. Packed with technology, this 32-valve, 5.0–liter V8 in the 2011 Mustang 5.0 churns out 412 horses* and lays down 390 lbs.–ft. of torque. And while numbers like these always look good in print, their true character can only be experienced from behind the wheel when the traffic light turns green.
Part of the power story comes from the 5.0 V8’s use of Cam Torque–actuated twin independent variable–cam timing (TiVCT). This technology allows variable control of intake and exhaust valve closing, independently, to optimize combustion and low-end performance.
The 5.0 also has a compression ratio of 11:1 and cylinder heads designed to optimize airflow. Other technologies include high-energy coil–on plug ignition and cooling jets that keep the pistons cool.
The driving dynamics of 2011 Mustang 5.0 are further enhanced with a six–speed transmission and reconfigured strut and shock tuning. Electronic power–assisted steering (EPAS) puts control and responsiveness directly in the driver’s hands. And the standard limited–slip differential gives you the traction you need it, whether you’re testing the off-the-line launch of the new 5.0 or driving in inclement weather.

But wait, there’s more! Not only does the Mustang 5.0 look good and perform great, it also manages a projected 25 mpg hwy.**

The original 5.0-powered Mustang built a reputation for performance. The 2011 Mustang 5.0 is ready to raise the bar.

Ford’s Transit Connect – Electric Van

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

Ford has been making some significant strides when it comes to the future production of electric vehicles. Ford seems to be making all the right moves, so if retraining engineers to focus on electric vehicles is their new direction, then expect other manufacturers to also follow their lead.

The decision to retrain Ford engineers to work on the electric vehicle development has begun in Dearborn MI. The first series of courses that engineers will attend will help prepare them for the future, and introduce them to new tools that are being developed. They’ll be working alongside companies like Azure Dynamics and Johnson Controls who along with Ford will be producing the highly anticipated battery electric Transit Connect van.

Starting in January 2010, the engineers will begin the courses in preparation of new manufacturing, engineering and testing procedures for working with battery electric vehicles, including Ford’s Transit Connect. The Transit Connect battery electric commercial van in 2010 promises to be the ideal fleet vehicle, which has virtually no competition in the US as of yet.

The use of an electric commercial vehicle is a wise move by Ford in getting a vehicle on the market that has significant potential to replace older and less reliable work vans for various businesses. Businesses spend a considerable amount for fuel, maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles so it makes good sense to provide these vans to companies like electrical, plumbing and other types of uses.

Ford partnered with Azure Dynamics to supply their Force Drive battery electric drive train for the Transit Connect. Azure Dynamics will use Johnson Controls, the worlds largest battery manufacturer, to provide the lithium-ion batteries for the Transit. The range is estimated to be approximately 80 miles on a full charge.

On December 10th 2009, The Detroit News named Ford’s Transit Connect Truck of the Year for 2009.
